The internationally renowned bathroom brand Roca had brought to Hong Kong for the first time Roca One Day Design Challenge, a competition aimed at students and young professionals who are starting out in the design and architecture sectors. In this first International edition of Roca One Day Design Challenge held within the framework of the Business of Design Week with Barcelona as the partnering city, there was a total of 126 participants in Hong Kong who, in just eight hours, tackled the challenge of designing bathroom products that fulfil the needs of the multigenerational household.

After a long day’s work, the Jury decided to award the Top Prize to the project Warm Carpet by Ho Yuk Wa, Poon Chun Ip and Wong Ho Yan from Listup innovation Ltd.. The Award-winning project – The Warm Carpet – consists of a carpet and mirror surface that recognizes the family members according to the individual member’s footprint and creates a modern bathroom experience with mobile App. “The Warm Carpet is a connection point between all bathroom products, integrating technology with ordinary and unconventional household materials, which makes integration between usual house atmosphere with some innovative device.”, presented by Carlos Velázquez, Corporate Marketing Director from Roca Sanitario, S.A..

The Jury was made up of professionals and representatives from various design-related institutions including Xavier Torras, Roca Brand Communication Director; Dr. Edmund Lee, Executive Director of Hong Kong Design Centre; Anthony Chan, Chairman of Hong Kong Interior Design Association; Andrea Ponti, Founder of Ponti Design Studio Ltd., Eisuke Tachikawa, Founder of NOSIGNER and Chi Wing Lee, Founder of Milk Design Ltd.. The Jury highlighted the quality, innovation and originality of the projects submitted, reflecting the vitality and dynamism of Asian Design Schools.

Carlos Velázquez, Roca’s Corporate Marketing Director, presented the first prize to the winning designers and highlighted that “In line with the Company’s firm commitment to the creation of innovative bathroom spaces, Roca organizes this competition with the aim of supporting young professionals starting out in their careers. Our objective is to provide them with a platform where they can develop their creativity and give them the experience of dealing with the professional world and the company”.

This first International edition in Hong Kong marks the debut of the Roca One Day Design Challenge on the international stage, after the four editions that have been held in Spain.
